Headed Upstream
Start of the war
I was only just four
But it's just a divorce right?
No, not when you're at the core
~
I don't care if you fight
Just leave me out of it alright?
Don't want to be at the center
I know I'll be crying tonight
~
Daddy's gone now and I can't count on you
I try to lean on your shoulder
You yawn and head out the room
Try to lay hands on your new fellow but he's gone out on you
Always too blind to realize that I'm calling on you
And we both cry on but there's no changing you
~
The love you took away from us comes and saves me now and then
I'm sorry, it isn't enough daddy
I'm enslaved to the pain
Through it all, you never saw me misbehave
I kept it all together and you know I forgave
~
By sixteen, I thought you'd have enough of me
There was a being inside of you
Let's call me Irene
She came into the scene and became the queen
All while I slept in class and overdose in caffeine
~
Too much responsibility
I didn't have the ability
Becoming a mother to my "sister" did not help me learning ability
I should have never had to pay for your irresponsibility
~
I beamed as I walked out the door once of age
My dreams were as intact as the very first day
You thought you had torn me, that's how it seemed
Sorry to break it to you, I'm headed upstream
~
I am a dreamer
I'm flying up high
Life's never been sweeter
Don't let your dreams die
