Healing
Whenever they asked me to describe myself in one word
I thought...
Broken.
And as much as you tried to fix me.
It couldn't work.
We were two people reaching to take the other's hand.
But we couldn't.
Because there was a piece of glass in the way.
I'm in prison, and
The guards and cell mates are carbon copies of my reflection.
I want to break out but the only way I could is if you break that glass
Yet you aren't going to,
Because you don't want to shed your blood.
You don't want to feel my pain.
You think it's unbearable,
Yet if it was...
I wouldn't be here.
And as much as I want to love myself...
When I look in the mirror I see what you say.
I see your words.
I don't see what others try to tell me I am,
I see my "imperfections".
That cliche:
"you're imperfections make you beautiful"
It's only a lie.
Those cliches, those people
They can't put you together.
They tape you back in one piece,
But tape. That doesn't hold.
So I'm going to deteriorate.
A piece of me slowly falling off, until all that is left is alphabet soup.
Your words.
And as much as we want to fix each other...
We can't.
Because I'm going to fall apart.
And I'm going to try to glue you together by doing so.
Your white shirt will be covered in noodles shaped likes H's, A's, T's and E's.
A word seeming pushed together by chance.
We will both crumble.
I can't fix you,
Only you can fix you!
So maybe...
Only I can fix me?
But how can I fix a person that is so broken?
How can I fix someone that has a raincloud over their head?
How can I fix me, if gravity was doing its job damn well!
It's keeping me down.
And just when your words aren't making me hunch over enough...
I peer through the looking-glass to see you flying!
How is that rain cloud just over my head?
Why not yours?
How doesn't the law of gravity apply?
And when I try to fly...
I look like a freak on a roof top.
My arms aren't being lifted up by the wind.
They are catching it!
Yet you still soar.
And if you can fly...
Why can't I?
Why can't I grow my wings?
I deserve them.
I always saw you as my chain, but your words don't define me!
They can't hinder me any longer.
I will write my own definition.
As long as I still breathe
As long as my heart beats
I'm a human being.
And sticks and stones may break my bones,
But words can never hurt me.
No, that's wrong
Because they hurt.
But your words don't define me!
Because my bones, they heal.
And I can too.
So whenever they tell me to describe myself in one words...
I'm going to say healing.
I'm going to close my eyes for a while.
Not just a simple blink,
And I'm going to look in the mirror.
I will see what I see, not what you say.
I'm going to love myself.
Something that only I can do.
I'm going to not just accept those "imperfections"
I'm going to embrace them!
I'm going to heal.
