Hear But Not Hear

We hear the cars honking in the city roads,

But we don't hear the children scream across the world.

We hear the airplanes taking people where they want to go,

But we don’t hear the daughter cry from a broken heart.

We hear the teenagers whisper with gossip,

But we don't hear the boy overdosing on pills.

We hear the teacher preach about respect,

But we don't hear how her husband talks to her.

We all hear what we want to hear

But we don't hear when truth speaks out.
