Heart in hand
(hearts in hand)
the blade hit the floor
falling from the hands of the beholder
onto the warm floor
the fire around them danced and sang
but the only thing they noticed
was the red blade as it slid into the crack in the floor
as they looked at each other
he smiled feeling his legs give out and his body hit the floor
she grabbed for his arm but missed as he fell into the abyss
she hated him for not leaving her a way to escape as easily as he had
when the fires raged up higher
her hands shook as she reached toward the flames
they played with her fingers numb from the hour
as she looked over she saw him there
reaching for her
as she reached out to grab his hand
the floor gave out finally under the pressure
but she had already been flying before she fell
among the clouds and smoke
leaving her crumpled body to fall as her spirit soared on with him by her side.
