At the Heart of It
To get down to the heart of it, rhymes never work.
Someone who tries that…
Well…it’s not really poetry. Why?
Because you can’t ever say what you want to. You can’t do what you want to.
You can’t love like you want to.
You just waste your time trying to fit passion into a box. To make something great fit on a template.
No, that’s not poetry.
Poetry is love and honesty. Anything else is lost in the wash.
So here’s a piece of poetry for you. There’s a girl.
She sits and wonders if she is what she SHOULD be.
If she is what she COULD be.
If she, even, is what she WANTS to be.
It’s all so confusing now.
Life gets lost in the speed of everything. There’s no time to consider dreams or feeling. Or even truth.
But deep down,
Way down there at the center of it all, she knows the deal.
Here’s the truth.
She wants love.
She wants appreciation.
What she wants, really, is what most people want:
To be known at the depth and core, and, somehow, maybe…hopefully, be loved.
Through failures,
Through shortfall,
Regardless of all those imperfections---
There’s so many little things that she doesn’t like.
Things about herself. She worries
Sometimes that she’s just not good enough.
Not good enough to be worthwhile.
Not good enough to be appreciated.
Sometimes she feels like everyone knows,
They must know her secret,
How she feels so ugly, dumb, annoying…you name it. She’s questioned it.
Why?
Why? She question who she is:
If she’s good enough, if she should be loved, if she is…..worthwhile.
Well, it’s like this.
Every now and then, she simply forgets things.
What, you may ask? What does she forget?
Two truths.
The first is the most grand thing that has ever happened to her:
She was, in incredible fashion, crafted personally, intimately, and wonderfully by her loving Father----
God in heaven above.
He made her. He cares for her so much. He created her DREAMS, her WANTS, her NEEDS.
He will fulfill them. He is GOOD, He is compassionate, He wants for her. He plans the best for her.
The second is important:
That same creator has put people in her life that LOVE her. They CARE for her and BELIEVE in her.
No matter what surveys say about her. No matter what people tell her she can’t be. No matter the trouble.
No matter.
This girl can take great confidence.
Why?
Because she is great. She has great hope, and that hope will never fail.
She was made with promise, and that promise will last.
There is purpose for her, and her meaning is undoubtable.
So, sweet girl, as you go forward….
Don’t rely on what man thinks of you. He is wrong or shortcoming on his own.
Don’t waste your time looking for the love of BOYS, God has made a MAN to take your arm in the future.
Have fun, enjoy life.
Love the Lord. Honor Him and walk with Him.
Be thankful for all the great gifts you have been given in life.
And…….be sure to show others that you care for them. It is a difficult time you are going through now.
But not only you,
Everyone.
All want the same things that you do.
Somehow, though, all are too scared to say so.
Instead, they waste their time mocking others or trying to gain self-recognition.
They make words meaningless by talking about nothingness. It’s all vanity.
Instead, in confidence--knowing who you are—love them in truth. Love others as God first loved you.
Do what is right, good, and uplifting.
