The Heart of the Jungle

My grandfather grew up in the jungles of Peru,

Where he knew no riches nor privilege.

Through struggles and toils he made his

Way to the land of the free and home of the brave.

Countless days and sleepless nights made

Him the pillar of success he is today.

He is like a pillar for me, and every little

Success I have brings me a step closer to him.

He has been my teacher, always sharing

His view on the world and imparting his wisdom.

He has been my motivator, constantly pushing

Me to my bounds in my schooling and everything else.

My dream is to have a work ethic like his, and

To become, hopefully, like him one day.

My gratitude to him is incomparable, so I say,

“Thank you, Grandpa, for everything.”

It brings me pleasure to know that I was shaped

By the Heart and Soul of the Jungle.
