This Heart of Mine

Sure, I'll let you in

But promise me one thing

Look me in the eyes

And say

You won't hurt me...

Please don't hurt me.

This heart of mine

Is fragile

It beats quickly

And breaks easily

This mind of mine

Has thoughts racing

And dreams of the future

Along with

Memories of the past…

I can't handle the pain

That accompanies love

So promise me

We can love

And leave hurt out of it?

Treat my heart as if it's a glass

You must keep from falling

Because once it shatters

There's no going back

I won't love again

I won't cry again

I won't feel the warmth of another

Again

Hold me close

And call me yours

Cherish the moments

We have together

I will feel most alive

If we love until death

Only then

Will I be willing to hurt

But until then

There is no pain I want to feel

I said it and I meant it

This heart is fragile

So please,

Don't hurt me…

Don't hurt me.

I write in my free time whenever I feel strongly about a topic or need to get something off of my chest. Poetry has been a very therapeutic outlet for me through the years. I enjoy sharing my poems in hopes that they connect with someone, and I enjoy reading poems by other poets, too!
