Heart of a Monster

Staring into the eyes of her aggressor,

fear and pain in her veins,

her once bright flame was muffled by his hand,

a bruise there,

a cut here,

but no one had a clue,

it's nothing new,

pain and tear streaked cheeks,

makeup and long sleeves to cover her wounds,

giving up and feeling like she was at fault,

mentality changed,

mind rearranged,

staking it all with one phone call,

blue and red flash through the glass,

her wounds are healed with those steel cuffs,

though she will never be the same,

she is no longer bound by chains,

no longer staring into the heart of a monster.
