Heart & Soul

“Follow my instructions”

I heard my heart murmur,

Feeling compelled

I decided to

Listen further.

My heart thus spoke,

And taught me the

Laws of the world,

But most importantly of all

The truth about control.

It told me that

My life is mine to choose,

that despite what others say,

I always have the right to refuse.

Yet I didn’t always

Have this sound advice,

And thus I suffered

And payed the price.

It all began

The moment I entered this world,

And didn’t end until

I became aware,w

And regained control.

When I was a little girl,

I was naive and believed

whatever I was told.

I thought  the world

Was in destiny's hands,

And that I had to abide by

Its constraints and demands.

But this proved to be

A faulty view,

I learned the hard way,

An experience I cannot undo.

I had to endure

People forcing from me,

A person I never

wanted to be.

And slowly

And slowly

I lost control,

Of my inner voice,

My heart, and my soul.

And finally

I turned a deaf ear

To my heart,

And as time went on

I began to fall apart.

Day by day until

I burst from the seams,

From all the things

Others imposed on me.

It was then and there

I became aware,

that the only

voice to follow,

was that of my own

and not that of others.

So I took a stance

And focused on myself,

My desires, my needs

Bidding the past farewell.

And as time

went on

I regained control,

My life was mine,

all thanks to my heart

and my soul.
