heartbeat

his heartbeat is multiplying
ready to burst out his chest
cold blood scattering the ground
creating a massive mess

his back against the concrete
and he's gazing at the sky
falling in and out of consciousness
with too much time slipping by

sirens in the background
inching closer to the scene
his eyes pop open as clear as day
realizing that the streets are mean

hearing voices in his ear
staring at the nightlight
realizing the life God gave him
gives him the passion to fight
