Heartbeat

I woke up this morning

with the sound of rain

hitting on my window

and I thought...

I recognize that sound

thump thump thump thump

Getting faster and faster

as I get near you

 Then slowing down

As you walk away.

And then I was alone

Sitting up in bed

Realizing

You were never here.
