Heartbeat

The mountains rise up

Proud, majestic, and still.

The fields lie low and smooth

Their grasses waving calmly.

The heartbeat of the earth

Is silent, but loud.

As the clouds sigh by

Refusing to look down.

Insignificant and small

Are those of us focused on our lives.

Oblivious are we

Of the heartbeat below.

Take a breath and smell that rose

Don’t forget to look up

Stand in sun and shadow

There is life beneath your feet.
