Heartbroke

I sit at the edge of darkness Looking out into the light Longing to feel its warmth Not daring to move closer Fearing what i might find The emptiness fills me Freezing my heart and soul Icy fingers steal my breath Squeezing painfully around my chest The love I once knew now gone Hope fades to despair Shattered dreams dance in the air I live in never-ending night Always reaching for the dawn Yet it remains beyond my grasp What once offered blissful peace Has now become my torment I pray for death to come I scream for release to find me It is swallowed by shadows They move closer to me Threatening my very existence Warriors of old, Lost in time Damning me to their world
