Heartbroken

After all the fake smiles
& worthless arguments,

our bond seemed
impossible to fix,

impossible to remember.
I sat with the moon &

asked why it did not glisten
on the nights we screamed

& threw away our love.
I heard the garbage man

cry because he was hit
with an eruption of waste

that did not belong. We
used to cherish the clouds

because they were
loyal to the sky & reached

a height unattainable.
I dreamed we could

resemble such faithfulness.
I dreamed we could

shine together like a newborn sun
but instead my heart

burst into flames no extinguisher
could put out

& I slowly, burned, away.
