Hello Fear

Hello Fear, I’ve been waiting for this moment to finally speak to you

Please, make yourself comfortable

Do listen to my words

Hear my story, and try to understand my pain

For this will be the last confrontation

My best friend is faith, and his sister is joy

My brother is strength and my father is love

You are the enemy, and with their aid, I have the courage to face you

So, hello fear,

You come in many forms

The one form that plagued me most was the dark

It’s hard to see in the absence of light

It’s hard to fight with no telling that it would go right

When the night swallows the sun, all hope is lost

And fear takes over, at little cost

Children are afraid to shut their eyes and sleep

There are many things in the dark

To make men fear lies and women weep

No light, no spark, no end to this curse

The more we cowered, the more it got worse

Fear, you are a clever man

This weapon you’ve created out of the dark

You've fooled us all

Compared to the dark, light looks so small

Even stars seem to be swallowed by the dark abyss

The sun and its warmth forever missed

Evil lurks in the dark

Most crimes are committed at night

In the dark, evil can hide, and fear can grow

You stir the chaos, you cause fright

You shatter mirrors, you have a poisonous bite

It consumes the world and all its people

Men, women, and children alike have given in to you

Yet some put up a fight

So, fear, I will no longer tremble in your presence

I will no longer sit and cry

Wait to die or watch as my people suffer

Death is your friend, but life is my savior

I see now that it is my imagination

The monsters that come in the night

The screams inside my head

The faces that haunt me

All are tricks of the mind

How clever you are

You’ve gotten so far

But I've seen what you're capable of, I know your ways

I as well as many others have stopped giving you strength

So, I challenge your purpose, I challenge your behavior

Here is my promise, my vow to you

I will not fear the dark, the evil, the one in the mirror, my reflection

I will not fear death, disease, violence, or the cruelties of this world

Your henchman shall not affect me

Your hatred shall not consume me

I have broken from the chains of your calamity

I have become immune to adversity

I used to fear the dark

But that, I conquered through my brother strength and my best friend faith

I lit a fire inside me and let it burn

May the light shine bright and never be put out

So, hello fear, I see you’re growing weak

Was it my strength that kills you or the words I speak
