hello to my lover, and perhaps, goodbye

hello to my lover
your saccharine smiles and
innocent jubilation
you amaze me through your purity
and baffle me through your trust

your expectations exceed what
i believe will be the tenure of our love
i whisper my admirations
my admissions of affection
yet to what extent will we continue this façade?

i know our hearts were joined
ever briefly, ever softly,
yet it bound us together
in this distracting game of hearts
where love becomes merely a piece
and excitement is the goal

we're tied by the silk sheets
and the gentle moon that peeks in
we're tied by the painted walls
and the shadows that hover about

shadows speak, my dear
their fingers claw at your conscience
to doubt us would be your right
but the heartfelt confessions
you spill to me
banish the dark from my mind, for just a second

my beautiful devil
your heart is purer than it should be
you tempt me to stay,
you tempt me to commit
take your tattered wings and remake them
with the last vestiges of your sanity

i'm always the one to pull away
the one to drift from your grasp
the one to rip my soul apart
from your fleeting touches and
wanting glances

the moment i leave,
i hope you will understand
there was never hope for an us
i'm a solitary being
a distracted dissociatee
unable to stand alongside
the things i love

i love you
but please,
we were never meant to last
goodbye my love
i must leave
