Hello, Old Friend

Dear Depression,

I would like to say long time no see, but actually I see you in everything

You are the solar eclipse to my social life

But thank you for the night vision goggles you dug out of the trash for me

I’ve actually become accustomed to black

The color of mourning that I confuse with the color of morning                                                               I haven’t seen a new day since February 29th

If I may just say out of all of my high fashion I wear you the best

Dark Cloud couture

My mother always told me if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all

Maybe that’s why people don’t talk to me much.

Or at least that’s why I think people don’t talk to me much

Correction, that’s what you made me think

You tried to convince me that fairy tales aren’t real

That peter pan would no longer be flying through my window

That I no longer had a window

You painted my window shut

But little did you know I had a door

And on the other side of the door was me

And that was enough for me

I never saw myself before

I didn’t know I was beautiful

I definitely didn’t know I was confident

I am an entrepreneur for my own happiness

I can now think on my own

Depression I thought you were my best friend

I thought you were my diary

But then you reversed the pages

And took root in my brain

You are no longer Geppetto

I am no longer your dummy
