Help Me Understand Love
Help me to understand you
Because I do not feel as though you love me enough to understand me.
"Because I love you", you say, as you ask me to utter words from my mouth that arent true.
"Because I love you", you say, as you ask me to confront anxiety just so your joy can roam free.
"Becuase I love you", you say, as you ask me to stand in the cold waiting for you... as my lips turn blue.
Yet you do not love me enough to understand that that's not how love works
Instead let me teach you about the simple beauty you are so plainly oblivious to.
I ask him, "Why did you help me carry the groceries in?"
"Because I love you", he says.
I ask him, "Why did you help me write my resume?"
"Because I love you", he says.
I ask him, "Why did you come visit my mother in the hospital with me?"
"Because I love you", he says.
And then he looks deep into my eyes, understanding the hurt lingering there from months before and the hunger, the craving, for something good.
Love isnt about the things you should expect the other person to do.
Love is the compassion that you are unconciously inclined to give the other person, just so that so much as a small smile is enought in return.
It is respect, sympathy, understanding and above all else, deep down in your own soul you know when the love is true.
