A Helping Hand

I never knew

how much you hurt

One night you asked

"Are you up?"

If I could come over

you needed a hug

I never knew

you'd been cutting

until you showed me

old, healed over, and

new, angry, red scars

I never knew

so many people were hurting

Now I look everywhere

give help however I can

I never knew

I could give someone hope

so thank you because

I never knew

but I do now
