To Her
In your absence,
My words are dull,
Short and dense,
Tired and old,
Without you here,
My song is slow,
Painful to hear,
Crushing to know,
When you’ve left,
The paint is black,
Inspired theft,
The canvas cracked,
But when you’re here,
My heart does sing,
I only think of lovely things,
Your face the greatest art I’ve known,
Your heart the grandest tapestry sewn,
Your voice embroidered with flowing gold,
My heart to you forever sold.
