Her

I lay

Head to knee

Her hand upon my head

Petting, stroking

To sleep

Like a child

I wake

Her arm around my waist

Holding me tightly

Front flush against back

Soft breaths on my neck

I turn

She’s resting

Eyes closed

Slight smile

She looks beautiful

I drape my arm around her

Kiss her softly

I open my eyes

A tear slips down my cheek

She’s gone again

The feel of her against me

Has disappeared

Her breath against my neck

Has dissipated

There is no warmth

From where she lay

It’s like she never was

Because she never really was

A harsh reality

Versus sweet fantasy
