Her Eyes

The teardrops run down
And fall off her nose
They come from dark places
Where?
Only she knows
She sobs in dark corners
Where nobody goes
She just falls apart
But never lets it show
Not in the light
Not where you'd know
But I found a path
That leads to the truth
You can follow the tracks
From her cheeks to her chin
Tear Stains that prove years of letting them win
They fight with her daily
Taking her life
Maybe that's why she uses that knife
They first stole her smile
Then gave her pain
She tries hard to win
They stab her again
Her eyes tell a story
Of anger and pain
At first glance she looks happy
But just look again
Under the layers of fake laughs and smiles
Her eyes are filled with stories that go on for miles
And the scars of her past
Hidden under her clothes
Are a roadmap to places
Nobody cares to know
She doesn't show pain
Not where you can see
But the proof is right there
Hidden under long sleeves
At night in her bedroom
The demons come out
Painting her body with blood and misery
When the sun shines
They are forced back inside
She paints on a smile
And easily smiles
She says "I'm fine, just tired that's all"
You can see through the distortion
If you really try
It's not all that hard
Just look into her eyes.
