Her Head of Thorns (pantoum)
In seventh grade
She read a book on the bench,
Because I made fun of her thorny hair.
And when she scratched, she shed dry flakes.
She read a book on the bench,
And we all agreed, She smelled like a boy!
And when she scratched, she shed dry flakes.
Leaving a trail as she walked,
And we all agreed, She smelled like a boy!
Her glasses dimmed from little, grey clouds,
Leaving a trail as she walked,
Because I waved my hand in front of my nose.
Her glasses dimmed from little, grey clouds,
Looking down at the floor,
Because I waved my hand in front of my nose.
And they laughed for me.
Looking down at the floor,
She tumbled on the jump rope.
And they laughed for me.
Because I called her a klutz.
She tumbled on the jump rope.
And she didn't come back the next day,
Because I called her a klutz.
Her mom found her in the bathtub.
And she didn't come back the next day,
Head down in water,
Her mom found her in the bathtub.
But my friends were the ones laughing!
Head down in water,
Because I made fun of her thorny hair.
But my friends were the ones laughing!
