Her Letter to Self
Dear Imani,
I know a lot of things have happened to you throughout your life but it is important that you never lose yourself in the negativity the world can throw at you. Although you shame yourself for caring too much about others, I am telling you that it is not a bad thing at all. Never stop caring for people even when others may not be as nice to you. I know you take rejection and brutal honesty to the heart, but you should remain strong despite that. At the end of the day, the person you have to be kindest to is yourself, because you're stuck with her for the rest of your life.
Another thing I want you to know is that friends come and go. It's natural for people to leave your life, and there is no reason to be afraid of that. That person was meant to be in your life for a reason, and if they leave that's a sign they were simply around to teach you a lesson. You shouldn't have to fight for people to stay in your life, and if you do, it will be easier to see who is worth fighting for.
Lastly, you shouldn't fall into societal pressures and force yourself to be in a relationship. Not every guy you meet will be Prince Charming, and that's okay. The men you let into your life whether it be in platonic or romantic relationships should love you for you. If a guy is with you for your appearance alone, then it's obvious that person doesn't deserve your love or friendship.
Stay safe, stay smart, and learn to love yourself in 2018.
Yours Truly,
Imani Fudl
