On Her Own

Years of planning, learning and growing

Have prepared her for this day,

To finally be on her own,

No longer any delay.

A mother's tear so soft and pure,

A wish and then adieu,

"My blessed child, stay strong and smart," she said,

"Shine bright like the sun, your natural God given hue."

"Loving parents, kind and caring,

I thank you for all advice.

One day I shall return to thee,

Older and more wise."

Hugs, and hugs, and hugs some more,

From her family and her friends,

"Goodbye," they said with tears in their eyes,

While the waving never ends.

"So long and farewell to all,

For my precious admirers, I'll pray."

She strode off down the road,

No longer any delay.
