Her Warm Hands

Her warm hands

held onto mine tightly;

my small figure

shyly glanced around.

First day of school

I was excited

yet fearful

to leave her protection.

My house was close

nonetheless

I asked mom

to walk me everyday.

Other kids

made fun of me

including Chien,

the cry baby.

I told my mom

he laughed at me

so she came

and scolded him.

I felt proud

winning against him

but my mom

quietly sighed.

“Though I’m strong now,

there’ll be a day

I can’t protect you

anymore.”
