At Her Worst Yet Best
Ambling toward the door, she’s saluted by camaraderie Tonight’s like any other; she’s only here to party Innocent upon entering never knew she’d leave a criminal Intimately involved with someone new, thought she was invincible Life has dealt her cards, she’s been blessed a perfect hand But that’s what others perceive her to be—perfect, always perfect In reality her perfection was something like a defect A curse you could say Immersed in self-defeat Incomplete and obsolete She began to retreat So she lay down with temptation Enveloped in bed with lust and confusion Wrapped in arms of trust and delusion Her run in with the devil a test of her true character She failed and he was able to corrupt her The lies built up, skyscrapers of invention But unlike Edison and Ben Franklin these creations caused tension The steel of the structure began to crumble down She suffocated as was inescapable and began to drown Inevitable and unquestionable In the pain, too much to handle Selfish Compared to the heartbreak of the boy now victim to her scandal So as the pressure of the architecture compressed her conscious Nervous, cautious, anxious, nauseous She approached him with hesitation and then came clean His first reaction was sheer shock, something like a dream She watched as his eyes filled to the brim with tears But he doesn’t shed one even though its news he doesn’t want to hear From his mouth streams words aimed to kill They slice through her, like murder, she begins to feel ill Regret, remorse she knew she was at fault His words drive deeper, the worst kind of assault And while he aimed to make her feel as awful as possible She knew this was right although the idea was barely audible Selfish maneuvers are not always ruthless She wasn’t a bad person, not wrong, not useless
