From Here to There

Cold winds of Russia, blowing outside

Yet I am warm and sleeping happily inside

Mother only 21, father not much older

As I'm growing up, I can's see them getting older

But the winds are getting chilly, the weather getting colder

Times are getting harder, days are getting shorter

Two full time jobs for Father, for he is a hard worker

Mother working only one, as she is not a metal worker

Extiting news just happen to come our way

We are all moving to America, everything will be okay

Heard the streets are gold there, everyone can openly be gay

Everything but the clothes on our backs must go, for we cannot take them when we go

So at 9 years old I left my country behind, for a chance of a better life to find

But the streets arent made of gold, and in the winter it still gets cold

Arrving in America is different than what I expected

Eveything about me was always corrected

From the way I look to speak to talk

So alone on this path I walk

Learning the language was a peice of cake

Two months later I can speak English as if my name was Jake

Home life did not imrpove opon arrival

Father and mother fought as if they were each others rivals

Court Rooms, lawyers, divroce papers were the next deciple

At age 13 I was alone, no family as they are all back home

My parents marrige as fragile as styrofoam

At age 16 they finally divored for good

To this day I do not know if they should

So once again I had to move, from one state to the next

But dont get too comfy, becuase in 8 months, were moving again, dont be perplexed

Forget about meeting new people, dont get too comfy

Forget about making friends, dont be too grumpy

Moving back in fourth as if I was a tennis ball

Time seems to be slowing to a crawl

But I keep moving, I keep going

For I do not want to be in their shoes when I get older

Sometimes life happens, and people grow apart

Sometimes people break each others heart

Understanding and accepting is where you should start

If you want to move past all the ugly part

Parents growing older, getting weaker, tired too

It is time for me to rise anew

No longer the lost and broken child

For my feelings must be reconsiled

I have been to many countires and seen many places

I have seen hearts shape and brake in peices

Spoken different lauanges with people

And I treat them all as euqal

In my mind thats when you're all grown up

When you decide to stop

You'll wake up and see the world differntly

You'll wake up and speak more gently

Understanding and accpeting is the most important part

Please do not forget that, so that it does not tear you apart

I think that I am now more wise than I have ever been

But I yet have room to grow like an ordinary bean
