Here we are now

Here we are now

Old and dusty

In the same spot as we were before

What is it this time?

I know all your thoughts

I feel your tears run down your face

The same tears I’ve seen all your life

Here we are now

From the time you were born

I cradled you

I was your shoulder to cry on

We played together

Until mother came and

That’s when it would turn dark

You ran to me for comfort

You were scared

I held you

Until you fell asleep

In your room you stayed till your teens

Here we are now

Waiting for that call

From that special some one

You wait every night

Not a single call

You barely talked to anyone

…just me

I knew all your secrets

All your pain

You were lonely

Your mom

Barely knowing you exist

Never visited your room

No “I love you”

Not even a “Go to hell”

Just silence

All you hear

Is the lonely cricket

Singing a lullaby

To the lone bright moon

Staring at you in midnight sky

Just one night

The cricket never came out

But something else came out

And sung a painful song

It was a very sharp thought

Pouring out

The lines on your skin

These red tears

Were the worst

They were staining my shoulders

Then you fell unconscious

Here we are now

Getting ready for your senior portraits

Looking as beautiful as ever

I see you twirling around in the mirror

Happy as you can be

We hear a knock at the door

It was your new best friend

You all get ready to go

Then you got a call it was a college

You were now accepted

To one of the best colleges in America

You all go down stairs

And pass by your mom

Who is passed out

On the couch

From last night

Here we are now

Moving day

Your boyfriend

Of nine months

And best friend are helping you

Get ready to move all of your things to your new dorm

I sit silently in the corner

Waiting for you to

To drown me in your attention

They finally helped me out to the car

You leave the house key under the welcome mat

For whenever you mom comes back

We drive off

Here we are now

You are one of the most recognized teachers

In the district

You are now a wife

And soon to be mother

You are sitting on my shoulder

Nervously

You shiver

The phone rings

…….

She’s gone

…your baby girl

Just slipped away in seconds

The tears poured out

Lighting up my orange spots

Your husband came

And we all mourned together

“We’ll try again until we get our blessing”

She smiled and gave him a hug

Here we are now

Old and dusty

Still here

But worn

Seams slowly fraying

But you still come for comfort

I’m sitting in the corner

Helping you coping with the lose

Of you high school sweet heart

Your one and

Only love

Your daughter

Comes and comfort you

Here I am now

 We come to an end

Now I’m surrounded by black bags

And there’s a dreadful smell

Where am I?

You said you would protect me

After I protected you

But now I sit on a heap of garbage

Where are you

My floral cushions

Are drying up from your last tears

 My frame is weak

After the last storm I dissolve

And turn into a pile of

Mold

Cloth

And soggy wood

Here we are now

I am your cushioned chair

Sitting in the corner of you bedroom

Now old and dusty

And one with the earth.
