Here We Sit
The ability to go beyond our boundaries,
to see through the eyes of god and behold his might,
to peak at the infinite power of what lies out there,
to challenge the limitation we placed on ourselves.
We now have that ability,
yet here we sit.
We see the prospect of the future;
we see the potential demonstrated by our accomplishments;
we see improvement that keeps us our dreams alive;
we see the dots in the sky shining light as if calling us to them,
yet here we sit.
We can feel within us the desire to venture where its dark;
where the unknown lies unchanged waiting to be discovered;
where the answers to our most deepest questions wait;
where we can find the power to be like the gods of old,
yet here we sit.
Our strengths keep propelling us forward
to witness wonders that had not been imagined before,
and many more wonders wait for us to find them
promising to help us grow into what we could be,
into what we all try to be,
yet here we sit.
We carry the weight of our weaknesses
and of our continued thirst for conflict.
We use all of our energy to obtain what we already have
in an attempt to get more material satisfaction.
We circle around our insecurities and fail to join as one,
as if our fear of the dark were stronger that our desire to grow.
After our extensive history, we should have grown past this,
yet here we sit.
For the first time in our history we can change ourselves in the deepest way.
For the first time, we can reach into the darkness ready to face what's hidden,
ready to reach places that provided the dust from which we rose.
We finally have the right tools, the right dreams, the right hopes to launch ourselves beyond,
to seize what was always there for the taking.
We showed that it is all possible,
that all can be done,
yet here we sit.
For some time we have basked in the glory of our first step,
one that we expected to maintain with unprecedented progress.
We followed that glory with tales of what was to come,
and when the time came, we stood idle.
Our dreams faded as our continued flaws overtook them.
We got a glimpse of immortality,
and hoped to unlock all of its mysteries
yet here we sit.
After all of it,
all that has made us rejoice in hope;
we risk our own destruction just to make sure we control the trigger,
a trigger obtained out of fear.
A fear of ourselves,
or of others having more than us.
Because when we came to age, and discovered that boundaries for power didn't exist,
we took these newly found rights and dreams, and failed to use them properly.
We seek jurisdiction over each other,
while true power still waits to be seized.
And now we are one step away from undoing all of our growth.
Many believe that because of this we will never reach the stars,
but I still have hope.
After all, we have had the ability to end ourselves for some time,
yet here we still sit.
