Here's to the Me of the Future

Here's to the you of the future,
To the you standing loud and proud,
To the you who embodies her dreams.

The you of the future will read this,
And sigh at the you of the past,
The young little dreamer who wished she could,
The little lamb you once were.

You abandoned your troubles and sorrows,
You bettered your life as you could.

You gave your soul to the devil
Just to win it back once it ends,
You knew you would trade your passion
And you worked for another instead.

You started as a young sheltered princess,
The type locked up high in her tower.

When life struck you hard, with the fast-killing blow,
All you could do was duck down and cower.

You played the spoiled fool, wasting time for yourself,
And never advanced ahead.

Now the past you who writes this is fighting,
Now the past you is hoping for your stead.

This past you is hoping you will overcome
All the hurdles that knocked you down to the ground.
This past you is urging you, begging you, please,
To fight and push your grounds.

This past you is writing of a dreamy future,
Where the future you will have the glory.

Where you'd be your own queen,
Accomplished each dream,
Of art, and health, and paper.

This past you is wishing for your success,
That you'll be a doctor, the very best,
Along with a teacher of harmonious sound,
A hobbyist author, known all around.

This past you is giving to you,
The future, the light the hope.

This past you is working for you,
So you'll have the passions she don't.
