Heritage Poem

Dear World,

I am an African American

I have beautiful dark brown skin

My hair is kinky and grows tall and high

My lips are full and wide

I am an African American

Born in the land of the free

And the home of the brave

A country built on freedom and Independance

I am an African American

Names like George washington and Benjamin Franklin

Represent the leadership I hope to achieve

Names like Martin Luther King and Barack Obama

Represent the inspiration I wish to become

I am an African American

I embrace this

It comes with flaws

But it is also beautiful

When People see me

I want them to see both sides of me

I want them to see how my history makes me strong

I want them to see how my history makes me a fighter

I am and African American
