Heritage ... that's all?

Job 20:29 New English Translation (NET Bible)

29 Such is the lot God allots the wicked,
and the heritage of his appointment from God.”

Heritage … that’s all?

Every day will be "Thanksgiving" and then it’s gone

One day to bring to remembrance to be grateful

Who will be the turkey sacrificed and overdone?

And who will shut his mouth and not be hateful?

Will I invite some others and share my “pre-owned” table?

I’ll tell them what to bring and I’ll be their just desert?

Do we then act our part in sure pretension that we’re able?

Since we locked together in by what we’re thinking we deserve?

Living and happy in a country that seems to be enslaved

As desire, wants, and wishes rake us in without restrain

Depravity at best makes life for most a competitive game

With no winners at the end as few receive the “precious” name

All are “membered-in” by me to who knows what?

Stored somewhere in my memories’ vague condition

All the dreams from early childhood disappeared into

“What will be must be”, in the wind of time’s collusion

The most fruitful seem now helpless as possibly they’ll be

Like being neutered and softly placed in another dimension

With offspring cloned after self in deeper thought of being free

With nowhere to find an escape from inherited pretension
