Hero
You finally broke…
You finally caved…
I heard you cry out your eyes…
After all these months of you acting like it was okay…
I finally realized what true torment is…
That the things that used to cause you pain were small fish in a big pond…
That in the grand scheme and in the bigger picture…
Those things compared to now don’t correspond…
I watched your face crumple…
I watched you shatter like shards of broken glass…
I watched you become something I’d never seen…
And the sounds of your sobs choked me like poison gas…
I watched your emotions slide from one end of the spectrum to the next
Like a mass of sharks swarming around a drop of blood
Never knowing the source of their blind ambition
But never ceasing to give up
But I guess I’m just now realizing
That even the strongest of foundations can shake
That sometimes the things we view as indestructible
Can be tampered with and can break
I realize now that all heroes have a weakness
That at some point their threshold has taken all it can take
And that while they’re busy saving the world?
People never seem to understand what makes them truly great
That being a hero has much more to do with selflessness
That being a hero means giving it their all
That even when the odds are stacked against them
They’ll fight to the end and stand tall
And that in the end?
They will never ask for accreditation
And they will always and forever unknowingly
Generate and birth inspiration
And the beauty of it all?
Is that my hero has always been you
You’ve undoubtedly shaped my world
From something dead and broken into something new
You alone have wielded the sword called hope
And destroyed the uncontainable bitterness that grew within
And the feeling that flooded my innards,
Is gone and I can breathe again...
I was so hopelessly blind
That I thought there was nothing worth perceiving
But you standing by me for this whole entirety
Is proof that you don’t need eyes for believing
So no,
When you crumble and fall its not weakness
When you cant take anymore from the world
It isn’t a step back or a regress
Every tear that’s fallen?
Is another plate of armor to add to your heart of steel
And that every time you’ve felt torn down?
Isn’t a blow to your Achilles’ heel
No matter how small you feel
Always know this to be true
You’re my biggest hero
And I owe my life to you
