The Hero I Want To Be
The Hero I Want to Be
By Deanna Richardson
You know the heroes that fly through the sky
Savin the day and takin down all the bad guys
Yeah, that’s the kind of hero that I want to be
But the one to help with today’s society
I want to be the hero that I’ve always dreamed about
My dreams of change drowns in a sea of doubt
Don’t know if anyone can hear my screams and shouts
When society got ahold of me
Trying to remove my individuality
Can’t seem to find out what's wrong with me
When there’s nothing wrong with me
I want to be a start of a new generation
That brings about change in a corrupted nation
A place where skin color doesn't determine education
A place where gender doesn't define occupation
And even when things are all said and done
People out here are still making racist fun
Stuff like this makes me feel sick
So think about like this
Why does disliking watermelon make me less of a black person
And when do the terrorist jokes stop when people see Muslims in person
And why are Latinos expected to be eating tacos all the time
And Asians are being made fun of because they look to be blind
And I don't know about you
But I know about me
Cause these scenes could get bloody
And these racist jokes aren't funny
I really hope that you can learn to understand
That gay and depressed kids are slicing at their hands
Cause they think they’re the problem
So they try to “solve’ the problem
In society today
Being yourself isn’t the way
And I know we all laugh at these stereotypes at some time
But it really crosses the line when it takes someone else's life
And I am sorry
If I had a negative impact on you
And I hope I can find a way to change society’s view
Cause I know I ain’t perfect
None of us are
So that’s why we come together
And use that power that is ours
Because I wanna be a hero
Different from the ones on TV
So people will listen
And the world will be pleased
Then the world will know my name
And the universe will be my stage
And I’ll light a fire in people's lives
And then no one will be able to deny
That it started with us
It started with this generation
That brought the needed change
To this forsaken nation
So one day when I die
No one will be able to deny
That we all brought change to their lives
And I’ll be at peace
That is the hero that I want to be
