Heroes of the Now

Read the poetry of the past and you encounter

Heroes standing tall and strong

Weapons in hand and armies around them.

Gods favor them and put fire in their eyes and hearts,

Their own divine blood rushing in their veins.

Their losses strengthen them

Love surrounds them

And victory is a given.

Stories of the now are

Heroes small and strong

Nothing in hand and conflict around them.

They’ve never met a god but they still have

Warmth in their eyes and hearts,

Red rushing in their veins.

Loss hurts them

Love heals them

And it’s not about victory.

Myths have evolved to

Involve us.
