hey stranger

hey,

it's been a while

since we last spoke

or even saw one another.

i always thought

i could never go a day

without talking to you.

and for a while,

that was true.

for about two years

that was my reality.

and to be honest with you,

i wanted that reality to stay.

you were my comfort zone.

my cushion if i fell too hard.

my shoulder to lean on.

and i think i was yours too.

we used each other

like a car uses tires

until they are worn out,

tread gone,

no traction,

just there.

and we,

we were just there.

we were no longer

helping each other.

i mean,

we weren't holding each other back either.

but

we still weren't moving

forward.

we became complacent.

complacent with who we were

for each other.

complacent with where we were

with each other.

we were complacent.

and don't get me wrong,

complacency isn't bad,

but we were so much more than that.

and i think we both knew that.

deep, deep down,

we knew what we were doing.

but we didn't want to admit it.

you see,

when someone is in your life,

for as long as we were in each other's,

you get comfortable with them being there.

you get so comfortable

that you forget why

you've kept them in your life for so long.

and we forgot.

and we fought.

and we pushed each other

to our limits.

and now

we don't say hi anymore

we don't see each other anymore

we don't stay updated with each other

so i just wanted to say hey,

it's been a while,

but i want you to know i'm doing just fine.

and i hope you are too.
