Hiccups
You see *hic* I’ve had these hiccups for quite a while. I’ve spent countless hours trying to rid my body of these tiny deaths. *hic* Holding my breath until my face turns blue and the room is spinning. *hic* but they never stay gone for long.
I think I got them from him, I call him my *hic* hiccup. Because much like a hiccup, our time spent together was but a short gasp that made me momentarily breathless. I used to think of him *hic* and gulp down a gallon of water to flush him out of my thoughts. I praised the silence between them. Back when saying I love you didn’t feel like *hic* choking on air. Late night conversations when only the stars could hear us. I speak of forevers and he’d say *hic* sure. Never really committing. Never really loving. He never told me that I was scaring my hiccups away. Now… I tip toe around sentences… hoping those hiccups would interrupt me just one… last …time.
