Hidden
There is a light in my hands
He is bright, unable to be missed
He grabs at my attention
Because he likes to touch things
I used to hide him because he was different
"Put that out," they said, "we don't have one of those"
"It isn't beautiful"
Nobody else had lights in their hands, so I wore gloves
Even while hidden, he liked to touch
He grew hot against my gloves
He told me to try it out
See what happens when we touch someone
He begged, he cried, desperate
"Let me out and I'll show you"
I grew impatient, then curious
I wanted to, but our world was a dark place
I took him to a man in one of the darkest places
So we might hide my persistent light
My glove came off and he danced in my fingertips
His excitement was almost blinding
I reached out and touched the man
His hand was sad and unlit
But as we collided, a light sprang up
Mine had attracted another
And she was a brilliant blue
We found others and grabbed their hands
Theirs were bright and green
As I looked around, I saw others twinkling like stars
Now safe to emerge
A woman, who had told me to hide
Who had helped me cover him
Who had hated my dear light
She grabbed him, and hers was a blazing red
My light doesn't hide anymore
He tries to glow brighter
To help those searching for light
To find it inside
