Hidden Self
Who am I?
How can I define myself without a lie?
How am I anything but a person behind a mask?
Can they even see the pain I hide inside?
Will they judge me for the things I have done?
We all hide behind masks
What am I?
You say you're a dreamer, but all you dream of is anywhere but here
You think you're a lover, but you just love the idea of love
You think you’re smart, but you just spout ignorance
You think you are brave, but you just put up a front
We all put up fronts
What do I want to be?
Do we ask ourselves every day: Am I smart? Am I rich? Am I desirable?
But is being what you want to be really you, or someone else?
The masks we wear, is that just a disguise to be what we want to be?
Does the mirror really show our reflection?
It shows a half-life, someone not being them
Removing the mask shows more than what we want to be
We show them what freedom is
I am free
