Hiding Behind A Gun
Humble be the heart of the simple man that feels
Compassion for another, and it has often been revealed
That you cannot be the man, when you're nothing but a punk
Hiding behind a gun when you dare confront someone
Cause if you step to the left when your ammo’s gone and spent
You’ll get slapped like the b**ch, you are, and there’ll be no relent
From the shame and the humility, you're certainly bound to feel
And it's more than paltry guessing, that you find, this shits for real
Now, back in the day when I was nothing but a flea
And running with the big dogs, was the way it had to be
We were neighborhood rowdies, but the news-watch called us gangs
There were no sissies in the click: that’s if you wanted to hang
We did it by committee, if some others wanted to swab
We would meet them in the cut, and sure as fuck complete the job
The game of choice, evolved in sports, the gridiron, or the court
As for those who wanted violence, we would accommodate, of course
But, we didn't have a need for guns, we fought for pure delight
To whip you like you stole from us, on any given night
Then it was on to better things, like liquor, bud, and sex
The next day found us on the court, with others yelling “NEXT!!”
So, mothers love your children like they're precious grams of gold
Cause, while some will reach adulthood, some of them won’t get that old
And let us people, be a people, and embrace what is God’s will
Because it was that way back then, and that’s the way it is
