Hiding from self
Psalm 119:5-6 New English Translation (NET Bible)
5 If only I were predisposed
to keep your statutes!
6 Then I would not be ashamed,
if I were focused on all your commands.
Hiding from self
Where do I stumble first ... is it in food that’s near
or is it in drink and singing ... to let grief disappear?
Exchange the “now” reality ... from the misery of your being
for a moment of contentment ... as from self you’re fleeing
Hide from me! You feelings ... the ones that I don’t like
and crawl into a corner ... and get lost for a while
I know, I can’t be different ... although I need that way
as then just for a moment or two ... my sanity will stay
When I wake with an empty cup ... you are there again
rushing through my aching head ... just being a pain
Will I go down like yesterday ... or feel better for a while
so that today looks better ... through food and lots of wine?
