Higher education
I started my junior year with a positive puff
With the world telling me it’s going to get ruff
I took my blade to challenge advanced placement
In the end, I was filled with disappointment
From straight As to curved Bs and Cs
With my parents telling me, I’ll do better in the future
But clearly they’re eyes showed a different picture
With my fire still burning I did not give up
With sleepless studying nights with midnight snacks
In no time, I was back on track
I ran to my parents, “I completed my quest”
“oh okay, what about your standardized tests”
My smiling lips faced the ground
As if my face was turned upside down
Oh boy! The struggle was real
Now I had to take standardized tests
Who call themselves a non-profit organization
The 60$ bill I paid, proved it was a misconception
With all this procrastination
I came to a realization
They set the bar too high!
With their cheeky commercials saying,” if you want to become a dentist, then our college is the best for you”
Well if you do two years of a foreign language, I year of government politics and calculus AB
Because who knows when a French politician will suddenly ask you a question on calculus while treating him
And then they say, “we make sure everyone can afford our college”
well yes, all you need is a small loan of a million dollars
and with the so called financial aid
I can pay back my loan in twenty years instead of thirty
and as those four years flew by
I completed my graduation
Freed from the chains of my student life, I was instantly caught in a guillotine called debt
And as the years flew by, this one thought was always in my head, “was it worth it”(x6)
And as I slide my hand through my pocket and opened my wallet’s mouth
“oh yes it was”
