Loving and Nurturing Environment

Loving and Nurturing promised to me,

I enter school with open mind.

Yet, now I turn to cynical glee,

For here no love I find.

Cheaters and Liars at every corner,

A skin bias too blatant to deny.

A truthful person feels like a loner,

And this why you hear this cry.

Be strong to all the people of color,

For there’ll be few allies!

Some will hold you by the collar,

And try to convince you of lies.

Your feelings hold no true value,

Unless you’re the milkiest of white.

Your struggles will go without review,

Cuz you can handle it, alright?

New rules conjure from pet peeves,

Never anything rational.

“Why listen to the kids needs,

As long as they're dressed as professionals?”

Hush Hush! Silence!

They mustn't hear you speak.

If your eyes aren't blue as violets,

Your words don't mean a peep

If you're lost upon the beaches of Spain,

Feigning from heat stroke.

Don't bother professing your pain

They'll deny each word you spoke.

Now forgive me for seeing the Dark Side,

For I am the color Black.

There’s not a place for dark truth to hide,

Though the community tries hard at that.
