Him vs. Her
Tears cloud my vision,
A salty product of the raw hit you used
An angry handprint stains my face instead of your soft kisses
Evidence that fueled my reminiscence of the initial you
That was the first time I felt the wrath of your insecurities
Somehow you turned the situation around and helped me to see that it was my fault
Jealousy that you portrayed at the time seemed cute to me
Who knew that because I choose to pick a fight with you that you really fought
I was hurt, scared, and confused
Fear racked through my body in thunderous waves
But then you held me, showing how truly apologetic you were; told me everything would be okay
You helped me understand that I lite the fire to your fuse
You hit me with that infamous line, “Baby, I promise it won’t happen again”
And so I stayed, one of the best mistakes I ever made, and Lord knows I made a few
You were my lover and my friend; I had to stay
Because I love you
Hell’s crimson blood flames, everywhere I looked
You have to understand I come from a dark past; my father beat my mother
When this hand impacted your skin, your head wasn’t the only thing that shook
But you made me so mad, maintaining control...I couldn’t bother
This was the first time I unleashed the power of my envy
But you were the first woman I laid hands on so it had to be your fault
My jealousy is my fear in disguise; I was so afraid that you would leave me
But my mother stayed until she broke so I would’ve let you walk
I was enraged, hurt, and fearful as I had ever been
Disappointment seeped through my veins as I started to become the man I despised
Yet you were the one who came to me with that bullsh**
All I ever spoke with was my hands, so when I yelled, they rised
As a held you, my remorse shown and I tried to make it better
I told you, “Baby, it won’t happen again. Not now, not ever”
And so you stayed, I stayed, for a beginning that was new
You were my lover and my friend, you had to stay
Because I love you
