Hint of Gold

A hint of light inches over the horizon

Once indistinguishable

Where brooding land caresses inky sky

A nightly tango between the god of the earth and the god who lords over the very heavens

Sunlight grasps its opportunity to cut in

Tendrils of light grip the horizon

Knuckles white on the precipice, the edge of this world

She gradually pulls herself into view

A rosy glow of pride

Casts her lingering tenderness

Upon the waking earth

Each tree enjoys a luxurious stretch

Under the newly discovered light of day

A smattering of palest orange, lavender, and magenta

Simple as a child’s crayon etchings

Yet perfectly arranged into a symphony of sights

The dawn of a new day

A symbol of continuity

Easing the flurry of hectic routine

Uncovering the constants of life

The beauty of unwavering faithfulness

Although each day descends deep into uncertainty

Shrouded beneath the imposing rule

Of a million pinpricks of light

Night will inevitably fade away

Illuminating once again the mysterious of the earth

Under the loving glow of the sun

Dissolving the shadows which we fear

With a carefully concocted elixir

The essence of hope

Some mornings

I silence the cravings of my wandering mind for the promise of sleep

A welcome repose from this life

I drag my body from its cocoon of comfort

An hour haunted more by the creatures of nightmares

Than the beings of reality

Blurring the line between the two

There I discover the often forgotten promise

Forged between the sun and our world

Redemption from the blackest fears of night

Embodied in the rising of the sun

I bask in the hope which enshrouds with me

Drinking in the wisdom

The beauty

The loyalty

Of a golden sunrise.
