Hip-Hop is Worse than Racism

In the summer of 2015, Kendrick Lamar preached atop a vandalized cop car,

“And we hate po po wanna kill us dead in the streets fo sho”

Kendrick expressed the sentiment of many black Americans

A feeling expressed by NWA, KRS-One and 2 PAC

There is an opinion held by certain people

Who you aren’t sure shouldn't offer their opinion

Gerardo Rivera claimed “hip hop has done more damage to African Americans than racism in recent years”

A claim like that deserves intense consideration

Is it possible a medium that gives voice to an otherwise disenfranchised people

Worse than an institutionalized misuse and abuse of power?

Racism began when a group of white men decided they needed a work force to build a new country

Instead of using their able bodied men and boys to undertake the project they forced a people to do the heavy lifting

Hip Hop began when several black males needed music for their sister’s party

So they chose to play the instrumental portions of their parent's vinyl

Racism has jailed many of our young men

Beaten our mothers with pipes and subdued them with dogs

Hip Hop has allowed insight into a people who were generally overlooked

Music provides a source of real income

I mean I can see where Geraldo is coming from

When someone calls me on my shit, I am quick to defend

So it’s clear how hip-hop is worse than racism
