His Beautiful Bird
She's fragile
Fraying
But her words
Can cut
Like the jagged edge
Of a nail
She's holding back
When all she wants
Is to scream
And all he wants
Is to save her
To make the ache
That keeps her mind awake
Go away
But
She's holding tight
To those demons
And every night
He holds her
As she cries
He wonders why
She kills herself
The way she does
So beautiful
Skin of silk
Sad green eyes
He just doesn't understand
But he'd do anything
To save this girl
From herself
From this world
Wrapped around her
She's made of sugar
And nails
She's enchanting
Mysterious
And damaged
Broken and bruised
So hard
Not to love her
Broken and all
So hard
Not to fall
For every word
That slips
From her pretty lips
She's hanging on to her life
By her mere fingertips
He wants her
He needs her
And he's loved her
His whole life
His friend
His wife
His dying bird
He can't reach her
When she won't reach back
He can't save her
When she doesn't want it
But he can't turn away
He can't stop
It's never enough
Always too much
And even though
He can only imagine
How a road
Like this can only go
He pulls her closer
Kisses her soft lips
Kisses those bloody fingertips
And fights
For his beautiful bird
