His Last Bite

The darkness trembles through the looking glass. I search for words that imitate the night. In purple eyes do images take flight Through birds that soar in shadows as I pass. Who is the one to veil a tender mask That lures the innocent to break their sight? And precious stones may cover his last bite Though elegance still shields a daunting task— To break the silence hovering the sun And men in suits and party hats will sing Of love, we will not know what hearts may come; But women celebrate the news and run To those deserving light of day and ring The bells of freedom, may his will be done.
