His Legacy
How can someone with such a bright smile, cast such a dark shadow? He seems invincible, almost. But under that smaile, there is a wall that not even his own wife can penatrate. Yet, under his grief and sadness, he overcomes it. He shows his children will to survive and to never be discouraged. He is not a stranger to depression or failure. All he had was himself and his brothers, to learn the way of life. Taking on the responsibility of being his own guardian angel. With nothing but old sneakers and a run-downed bike. He knew he was from nothing, so he believed he was nothing. But now he thrives, because he knows he is something; a son, a soldier, a husband, and a father.
My father's hands show a history of hard work and devotion. To strive for greatness even if it seems impossible. I admire his scars, for they show sacrifice and determination. That no matter how big the obstacle, he faced the impossiblle and made it possible. I was taught to welcome a challenge and to overcome it and to learn who was really there for me in my time of need. To never feel below or under someone. I shall hold my chin high with pride. That I shall wear my name with pride.
I have never seen him cry the 17 years I've been alive. I believe it's because he is pillar and my rock. He does not want me to worry, but as a daughter's duty I shall worry. He is my guardian angel in the good and the bad. And that I forgive him for all of his mistakes. His path has not been an easy one, but a long challenging one. I believe that it is my duty to fill in such big steps to carry on his legacy. That no matter how low I get in life, I shall never accept defeat nor shall I ever surrender.
